Journaling 101

Interested in making daily journaling a part of your self-care routine but don't know where to begin?


If you are having trouble starting with journaling, here are a few points to help you get started:


1. Start small. Don't overspend. Think about what you want to journal about each day. Begin with a simple journal to get you going. This could be a blank journal or a guided journal if you don't know what to write about.


2. Make time each day to journal. It could be 5 minutes of free writing as you have a cup of coffee first thing in the morning or after dinner. Make this your alone time without distractions.


3. Although you can use digital journals to do your journaling, I recommend handwriting in a physical journal for best results. There’s something about the old-fashioned way of putting pen to paper that can be quite therapeutic.


4. Write for yourself and to yourself. Your daily journaling practice is for you not for anyone else. So, be brutally honest with yourself and about yourself.
